What exciting thing happened to Ms. Boudreau this month?
With the help of Room 18's super stars, otherwise known as MOVIE stars,
Ms. Boudreau won a contest!
Last April, Ms. B attended the SDE New England K-3 Conference in New Hampshire (It is one of her favorite conferences... she has attended MANY times!). This past fall, SDE announced that it was running a contest. All participants from last year's conference could enter a video or written entry to show or tell about something that they learned at the conference and how they implemented their learning into the classroom. With the help of her brother Mark, Ms. B made a video from footage taken in room 18 of students doing various word study activities. From the 8 minutes of footage shot on Ms. B's Iphone, they had to come up with a 2 minute video for the contest entry. The end product was pretty cool and the students of room 18 were really proud of it. After months of waiting, and assuming that she didn't win, Ms. B got an email during the first week of March to say that she won the contest! One of the kids said that she actually saw Ms. B leap with excitement! What did she win? Free tuition to attend the 2 day conference this April!

Thank you to the stars of room 18 for your talent and to my brother Mark for the editing!
I am so excited to attend this workshop again this year! - Ms. B
March Weather Tracking
This month, the first grade classes tracked the weather each school day and made this picture calendar to show the results. For each picture, taken from the same point of view with the school flag in sight, students observed and recorded the cloud cover and the wind strength. They also read a thermometer and recorded the temperature. Each first grade class was responsible for one week of observing and recording. Our class did the last week of the month. If you look closely, you can see that March came in like a lion with snow on the ground in the first few pictures and left like a lamb with clear skies, no snow and warmer temperatures.
Reader's Theater!
After working with their scripts (based on their guided reading books) for the last month,
the stars of room 18 performed their plays in front of our fourth grade buddies!
The stories came alive as the children read with expression and excitement. It was a fantastic day!
The following are pictures from rehearsal time and our final performance.

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!
To celebrate Read Across America Day and Dr. Seuss' birthday, we wore special clothes to school.
What do you think of our outfits? We wore...
Red and white to honor The Cat in the Hat.
Green and orange to honor Green Eggs and Ham.
Oh, and there are a few mismatched socks in there for Fox in Socks too!

Science Centers with Endicott Teaching Students
We were very lucky to have a visit from Mrs. Mary Hatton, Batchelder mom and a teacher of future teachers at Endicott College. She brought some of her students to our class to show us weather in action! We made clouds, raindrops, dew and frost!
